Maybe there’s an upside to Disney buying Star Wars: this Star Wars Pixar mashup from artist Phil Postma (via Taste of Cinema)
The Battle of Hoth recreated in a guy’s house, at 1:18 (3 3/4 inch action figure scale). What’s amazing is that there’s no digital effects here - the explosions etc. are all hand-crafted in 3D. (Via Kotaku)
“Inside The Battle of Hoth” by @attackerman Wired. Infographics accompanying an interesting analysis that argues that the Empire’s “victory” on Hoth was a bigger defeat than losing the Death Star at Yavin IV. It compares it to the U.S. letting Bin Laden go at Tora Bora. Even more interesting follow up here as the Defense Nerds Strike Back.
Storyboards for the ultimate sci-fi film.
Star Wars (1977)
Director: George Lucas
Storyboard Artist: Joe Johnston
I love how you can still see the late, great Ralph McQuarrie’s influence.
Joe Johnston, who drew these, art directed the original Star Wars trilogy as well as Raiders of The Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom. He’d also go on to direct himself, most notably The Rocketeer and most recently Captain America: The First Avenger. George Lucas would go on to ruining his creations and legitimately raping your childhoods.
c/o Kokaku, Star Wars figures were just inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame. Raising two questions: a) There’s a toy hall of fame? and b) If there is, how did it take them so long to recognize the best toys ever made?
Anyway, this image, which I remember from the back of the cards, brought back some nice memories for me.
…but this Star Wars Bounty Hunters/Reservoir Dogs print by @andymacdeez takes 1st prize for me. YOu can buy this along with the aforementioned “Breakfastables” print it at Andy MacDonald’s new Whiskey Mech store here.
AMAZING Star Wars fan anime (h/t @aaron_sparrow). Yes, I’ve had this posted before but it keeps getting taken down by the user. Enjoy this one, via screencrush.com while it lasts.
Spaghetti Western-inspired posters from artist Timothy Anderson (via Kotaku’s clevery titled article The Good, The Bad and The Ugnaught)
