New Book Out This Week: Marvel Adventures Super-Heroes #23

RIFT RAIDERS is probably the only true “All Ages” book I’ve done, the only one I’d be truly comfortable sharing with my nephews and niece.  (Don’t get me wrong, I’m really proud of GROUNDED, but it’s probably more PG than G.)

That’s about to change this week with my story “RISE OF THE SUPER-SKRULL” in Marvel Adventures Super-Heroes #23, out this Wednesday, February 8th.

While it’s kid safe, it’s probably no different in tone than comics I grew up on in the 80s.  Back then mainstream comics told stories that were adult in their complexity, not in their gratuitous violence or sexuality.

(Not that I don’t love me some gratuitious sex and violence…it’s just nice to finally have something I can share with my niece or nephews without turning them into serial killers or having them take up pole dancing.)

Hopefully I’ve upheld that tradition, and this is enjoyable no matter how mature you are.

What I’m more excited about than the All Ages rating is that this is my first crack at The Fantastic Four.  And I realize, my first time writing any of Jack Kirby’s creations.  Which is an honor I take seriously.

The art is by Tim Levins, who comes from animation and I think knocked this out of the park:

(That’s just pencils, trust me when I say it looks even better inked, colored and lettered).

The cover is by my Supergirl collaborator Ale Garza.

Here’s the solicitation info…I really hope you’ll check it out:

• THING takes on a MOLOID infestation!

• FANTASTIC FOUR v.s. SUPER SKRULL!

• Fantastic fun for the whole family!
