For a young guy, Dan’s been around comics for a long time, inking some for Rob Liefeld when he was a teenager.  He’s re-invented himself as one of the best cover artists and one of the most underrated interior artists/storytellers in the business.

Along with Dave Johnson (100 Bullets cover arrist), Dan founded and runs Drink and Draw Social Club here in LA, where artists, well…drink and draw.

Earlier this month, Dan teamed up with Jennifer Fabos Patton Gallery Girls to host a “60s Mod” live drawing event, where I did my first figure drawing of 2012.  This marks about a year I’ve been doing this, although I haven’t drawn anything since October. Despite Dan saying some very nice things about my drawing, I still very much consider myself a frustrated amateur.

It feels a bit like sacrilege to post anything I’ve drawn in the same post as Dan’s, but here goes anyway.

I rarely get to show you what it is I’m actually drawing from.  I’ve been tempted to ask the models if I can photograph them, but I never found a creepy way to do it.  Until now…

The model for this pose actually started taking cell phone pics of some of the artists’ drawings from her, including mine.  Since I’d shown her mine, I felt it only fair she show me hers, and asked if I could take her picture.  Not only did she agree, she was nice enough to recreate the pose:
